- A minimum of 10 years development experience; preferably in a national environment; including experience developing a strategic fund-raising plan.

- Proven success in soliciting and closing major gifts.

- Self-motivated, entrepreneurial and embracing of a start-up environment with the ability to move quickly in a fluid, growing organization.

- Creative with the ability to find and create new giving opportunities.

- Comfortable with and skilled in building relationships with individuals, foundations and other potential donors and supporters.

- Strong management and leadership skills, including the ability to develop a high performing professional staff, professional relationships and volunteers.

- Experience working with and managing a nonprofit Board of Directors and high-level volunteers.

- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, outstanding communication skills; written and verbal.

- An independent, strategic thinker with good judgment, sensitivity, and the highest level of integrity.

- A sophisticated, mature, empathetic individual able to work effectively within a health-related organization; personal experience with substance abuse and its effect on families is helpful.

- Willingness to spend significant time outside of the office. Local and national travel is required.
