Community Synagogue of Rye seeks an Executive Director (ED) to partner with the clergy team, senior staff and Board of Trustees in striving for excellence in all its spiritual, educational, programmatic, and operational efforts. Reporting directly to the synagogue President with accountability to the Senior Rabbi, and working closely with the Board of Trustees, the ED will be the most senior non-clergy employee of the synagogue and, as such, must embrace and engage in community outreach and provide best-in-class service and support to its membership.

The ED will provide leadership and direction to professional and administrative staff in support of the vision, policies and messaging of the Board of Trustees and clergy. S/he will be responsible for oversight of all operational day-to-day activities at the synagogue comprising the membership, finance, human resources, fundraising, communications, IT, and facilities functions. Not all of these functions have dedicated staff, so the incumbent must have the flexibility and skills necessary to perform them or to partner with volunteers or outside vendors to effectively manage them. S/he will also be the primary liaison with the Board of Trustees, supporting and coordinating all of the Board functions, committees and taskforces.

The successful candidate will possess the skills and personality to manage a complex organization. S/he will have a demonstrated track record of success in building and managing a strong administrative team, overseeing complex projects, and a personal style that creates a positive tone for the staff, members, and the entire CSR community. S/he will use these skills to assess and modernize operations where warranted, create connections across departments, stimulate and formalize communications, and most importantly foster a dynamic and interconnected feeling of community.
