Background





The Edlavitch DCJCC (EDCJCC) is the Jewish community's address in our Nation's Capital, providing uniquely urban educational, social, cultural and fitness programs to the metro DC community. The mission of the EDCJCC is to preserve and strengthen Jewish identity, heritage, tradition and values through a wide variety of social, cultural, recreational, and educational programs and services. Though its primary focus is on the Jewish community, membership and participation in activities of the EDCJCC are open to all residents of the metropolitan area. Originally established in Washington in the 1920s, the EDCJCC is now visited by over 50,000 individuals each year.

The EDCJCC provides an array of programs to the Washington DC community, including:

Arts  Located near Dupont Circle, the EDCJCC is the only JCC in the nation to employ a professional acting company as one of its programs. Theater J, which produces several full-scale performances each season in the Centers Aaron & Cecile Goldman Theater, seeks to celebrate and explore the complexities and nuances of both the Jewish experience and the universal human condition. In addition to Theater J, EDCJCCs Morris Cafritz Center for the Arts annually produces the Washington Jewish Film Festival and the Washington Jewish Music Festival, as well as other events designed to showcase the rich history and culture of Jewish arts.

Early Childhood, Youth, and Family  The EDCJCCs Preschool serves over 100 children ages 2-5 and is committed to providing a child-centered, emergent curriculum that promotes a collaborative learning environment. Children of all ages can partake in the EDCJCCs after school programs, which offer exposure to diverse subjects including chess, language classes, and music lessons, or enroll in one of the many camp sessions, which run year round. Additionally, the EDCJCC has a Parenting Center that provides parents with support and guidance, ranging from parenthood preparation to infant care to family management.

Jewish Living  The Leo & Anna Smilow Center for Jewish Living and Learning offers classes such as Introduction to Judaism, Bible Study, and Interfaith Workshops. The EDCJCC is also a central gathering place for the community on Shabbat and holidays.
Networks  The EDCJCC hosts several social networks designed to bring together different subsets of the community, including EntryPointDC for young Jewish professionals, GLOE for the GLBTQ Community, a senior lunch program, and Inclusion Programming for individuals with disabilities.

Fitness  The Health and Fitness Center provides group exercise classes, one-on-one training, and wellness workshops for both members and non-members. Class options include yoga, aquatics, and martial arts. The Center also hosts recreational sports leagues throughout the year.

Position





In addition to the activities described above, the EDCJCC is entering into an exciting time as it launches a capital campaign to renovate the building and expand the endowment. It is seeking a new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to partner with the CEO in managing growth and change. Working on a solid foundation, the new CFO will provide fiscal leadership and oversight for the organization.
The CFO will report directly to the CEO, interact with the Board of Directors, and be an important member of the senior management team. The CFO will be responsible for the day-to-day management of all fiscal matters and be a thought partner with the CEO and the Finance Committee. S/he will supervise a staff of three and will have responsibility for finances, human resource administration, technology, and security. The CFO will be involved with all the financial aspects of the institutions current capital campaign.
The successful candidate must be a team player, capable of integrating smoothly into the senior management team and fitting well in the organizational culture. S/he will have strong interpersonal and presentation abilities, excellent written and oral communication skills, a pitch in attitude and the ability to solve issues as they arise. S/he must work closely with the staff to promote and maintain an open, inclusive environment that emphasizes transparency and teamwork.


Compensation:




Responsibilities





- Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the EDCJCC finance function and provide direction and supervision to the finance team engaged in day-to-day internal accounting and cash management.

- Demonstrate strategic thinking in planning for the organizations short and long term financial future.

- Present at the following meetings: Board of Directors, Finance Committee, Executive Committee, and Investment Committee.

- Lead directly or indirectly through subordinates: accounting, banking, finance, budgeting, forecasting, IT, reporting, strategic planning, cash management, real estate financing, regulatory compliance, risk management, insurance, human resources, payroll and security.

- Manage and oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed.

- Ensure that financial controls and procedures are streamlined and that clear policies are implemented and monitored to create proper checks and balances and best practices.

- Work closely with the senior management team and department heads to lead and manage the development of the overall budgeting process, review financial models, suggest and implement cost savings strategies, and hold department heads accountable for monthly variances.

- Keep the Finance Committee up to date on all capital structure issues/initiatives.

- Oversee the coordination and activities of the independent auditors and the preparation of the annual financial statements and footnotes, Form 990 tax filings and other regulatory reporting.

- Supervise the information technology function, including the coordination of the evaluation, selection and implementation/training of new software systems.

- Supervise and oversee the administration of Human Resources, including programs of health insurance, benefits, retirement plans and payroll.



Qualifications





- BA or BS in Finance, economics, business or business administration required; MBA preferred.

- Demonstrated a high level of leadership and managerial skills with a minimum of 10 years in progressively responsible fiscal leadership roles.

- Experience in non-profit accounting and GAAP standards in order to provide thoughtful and strategic financial and budgetary oversight.

- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain numbers in an uncomplicated way so as to effectively tell the story of the fiscal health of the Center.

- Experience managing or working with technology and data systems, including financial, educational, and fundraising/development. Ability to multitask, manage and coach across multiple disciplines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

- Strong strategic, analytical and financial planning skills.
